NEW LONDON, Conn. — A senior financial writer with the New York Times is scheduled to discuss the Bernie Madoff scandal at noon Friday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy here.
Diana B. Henriques is the author of "The Wizard of Lies," a New York Times bestseller, and is the only journalist to have interviewed Madoff in jail. Her 45-minute discussion at the Officer's Club here with Coast Guard Academy cadets, faculty and staff is sponsored by the Leadership and Management Department at the academy.
“The academy mission includes not just leader development, but also holistic character development," Lt. Andy Halvorson said. "The Bernie Madoff scandal highlights the deep tragedy that can result when ethics are marginalized. We feel very fortunate to have an author of Ms. Henriques stature to remind us of the importance of character development and the enduring nature of the Coast Guard Academy’s mission.”
Members of the media interested in attending must contact the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Public Affairs Office at (860) 444-8270.
This event is not open to the public.
