NEW LONDON, Conn. - First class cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy find out what unit they will be assigned to once they are commissioned during a traditional Billet Night ceremony at the Coast Guard Academy March 10, 2010. Prior to Billet Night cadets ranked their preferred assignments which ranged from the newest ship in the Coast Guard fleet, the 418-foot Coast Guard Cutter Waesche to shore and flight assignments. Locations for each assignment range from Alaska to Florida and all shore points in between. Approximately 93 percent of the class received an assignment aboard a Coast Guard cutter, 4 percent were assigned to flight school and 3 percent are headed to shore units. |
