Noted author to visit CGA

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Journalist David Helvarg  is scheduled to visit the Coast Guard Academy Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Henriques room to speak during a free public book signing and lecture about his book, "Rescue Warriors - The U.S. Coast Guard, America's Forgotten Heroes."

"Rescue Warriors" documents Helvarg’s journey riding along with the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard while they perform their daily missions.

This in-depth look at the history and changing missions of the Coast Guard is a recommended book of the year on Adm. Thad Allen’s leadership reading list: www.uscg.mil/leadership/reading.

Helvarg is president of the Blue Frontier Campaign and author of "Saved by the Sea," "The War Against the Greens," "Blue Frontier" and "50 Ways to Save the Ocean." He has produced more than 40 broadcast documentaries for PBS,  Discovery Channel and other networks. He has also written for various publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Smithsonian, Popular Science, Sierra and The Nation.
