U.S. Coast Guard Academy Named a “2010 Great College to Work For”

U.S. COAST GUARD ACADEMY, Conn. – The Chronicle of Higher Education has named the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, for a second year in a row.

The results, released Monday in The Chronicle’s third annual report on the academic workplace, are based on a survey of more than 42,000 employees at 277 colleges and universities, of which only 97 achieved the distinction as a “Great College to Work For.”

“I am ecstatic that our faculty and staff recognized the Coast Guard Academy as a great college to work for, because we really are committed to providing everyone here an environment where they can reach their full potential” said Rear Adm. J. Scott Burhoe, Academy superintendent. “It is because of our faculty and staff that the Academy is able to achieve its mission to educate, develop, train and inspire leaders of character.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.
